VIRTUAL: Keeping Your Kids Safe With Kid Power | 6PM-7PM

  This event is offered virtually only, online via video conference and by phone. Please register in advance to receive access information.

 

How can you teach your kids online safety without terrifying or lecturing them? How can you help your kids confidently stand up to bullying and harassment? How can you confidently advocate for your kids?

Kid Power and Our Family Coalition present...SAFETY LEADERSHIP SKILLS FOR ADULTS!

At this event, you will learn how to:

  • Teach kids skills to be safe without scaring or lecturing them
  • Help youth deal confidently with bullying and harassment
  • Advocate for your kids
  • Set boundaries with family members and others
  • Make family safety plans
  • Empower youth to advocate for themselves in age-appropriate ways
  • Adapt skills as kids grow and become more independent

***Be on the look out for 2 more upcoming Kid Power events: Starting Strong (for ages 3-7 + their adults) and Boundary Skills (ages 7-12 +their adults)

Kid Power International is the global nonprofit leader in ‘People Safety’ education – an international movement of leaders reaching millions of people of all ages, abilities, genders, identities, and walks of life with effective, culturally-competent interpersonal and social safety skills.

Taking place virtually via secure Zoom phone and video conference. A Zoom link will be sent out the morning of the event.

We’re looking for stories by or about LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers or prospective parents, as well as the grandparents or adult children of LGBTQ+ headed families.

Generally, we hope your story will not only inform other families on LGBTQ+ family topics, but also let others know that they are not alone in the journey of advocating for our families.

Whether you feel like you’ve arrived, or your story is not yet complete, know that we can keep one another company all along the way. And it always helps to feel a little less alone.

  • How is your family structured?
  • What is your family formation story?
  • Have you faced challenges in forming your family or parenting because of your identity?
  • How were you able to navigate these challenges?
  • What has been the impact on you/your spouse/children?
  • What systems/people helped guide you?
  • What advice would you have for other LGBTQ-headed families – or perhaps just your younger self?
  • How have you or your family dealt with challenges at schools, medical providers, or elsewhere?
  • Were there times when you expected resistance and instead were welcomed?
  • Do you have opinions you’d like to share about current events, or perhaps movies, TV shows, music, or more?
  • Do you have a story about how Our Family Coalition has had an impact on your or your family that you’d like to share?
