VIRTUAL: NCLR & OFC Present: Queer and Trans Mothers: The Legal Landscape in 2022
Description
This event REGISTRATION IS OPEN. Please EMAIL Krystal Peak [she/her], at krystal@ourfamily.org if you have any questions about this event.
In honor of Women's History Month, Our Family Coalition is partnering with the National Center for Lesbian Rights to offer a (virtual) panel discussion focussing on the legal climate right now for queer and trans mothers. Three national experts and one litigant will discuss legal milestones currently in place, protections and recognitions yet to be secured, as well as current challenges in the form of legislation and litigation.
Panelists will explore such questions as: What gains have we made since the landmark SCOTUS ruling in 2015? Where are the greatest threats emerging now – geographically and legally? How are queer and trans mothers' legal protections becoming divided along intersectional identity lines? Where should interested community members focus their attention and advocacy in 2022?
Cathy Sakimura, Esq. (she/her/hers), Deputy Director & Family Law Director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights leads a discussion with Naomi Goldberg, Deputy Director and LGBTQ Program Director at Movement Advancement Project, and Dana Rudolph, publisher of the GLAAD Media Award-winning LGBTQ parenting site Mombian. Also joining us is a litigant, Lisa Runion, from a case securing second-parent legal rights.
