This is a VIRTUAL event. It will be available online via video conference.Please register in advance to receive phone and video conference access information.

 

Be in community with trans and gender-nonconforming parents, prospective parents, and co-parents. Connect and share what's on our minds. From the workplace to trans activism, transition to temper tantrums, and particularly how to manage stress during this most challenging of times: discuss whatever you'd like to in a safe space with friendly, supportive people. Newcomers welcome!

This parent support group for Trans* and GNC parents will be facilitated by Shareena Clark-Ascher, OFC's Programs Director.  

 

 

Monthly on 4th Monday • April 25th, 2022  •  6:00 - 8:00 PM(PST)

 

Taking place virtually via secure Zoom phone and video conference.

 

Please register using the link above to join online. We'll send you the Zoom link on the morning of the event. To be sure to allow us enough time to get back to you with the contact information, please register as early as possible; remember also to check your spam folder if you've not received access info. Our video and audio conferencing are HIPAA-compliant and preserve the security and confidentiality of all our participants to the highest standards possible. A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES:

If you plan on attending this event in person, please notify Family Programs Director, Shareena Ascher (shareena@ourfamily.org) directly, no later than Friday, April 22nd at 11:00am. Please also let Shari know if you will need childcare while at the office so staff may properly accommodate for participant attendance.  

A Zoom link will be sent out the morning of the event for those joining online.

Snacks will be provided. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions you have.

COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES:

  • Anyone entering OFC must be fully vaccinated. A personal attestation must be signed at the front desk indicating that anyone entering the space is fully vaccinated, does not have any symptoms, and has not been in contact with anyone with COVID.
  • Maximum of 3 families in person at a time at our indoor events.
  • All OFC staff, volunteers, interns, and guests are required to be masked, check their temperature and sanitize their hands upon entering the office.
  • All staff are required to wipe down their desks and phones before and after use on a daily basis using the sanitation wipes.
  • Windows must be opened to allow ventilation and air vents should be turned on.
  • Six-feet distancing should be maintained at all times when inside.
  • When children are present in the child care area or in the main office, all children must remain masked. Their hands should be wiped with sanitation wipes upon entry into the space and frequently during their stay within the space, and once again before leaving the space.

We’re looking for stories by or about LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers or prospective parents, as well as the grandparents or adult children of LGBTQ+ headed families.

Generally, we hope your story will not only inform other families on LGBTQ+ family topics, but also let others know that they are not alone in the journey of advocating for our families.

Whether you feel like you’ve arrived, or your story is not yet complete, know that we can keep one another company all along the way. And it always helps to feel a little less alone.

  • How is your family structured?
  • What is your family formation story?
  • Have you faced challenges in forming your family or parenting because of your identity?
  • How were you able to navigate these challenges?
  • What has been the impact on you/your spouse/children?
  • What systems/people helped guide you?
  • What advice would you have for other LGBTQ-headed families – or perhaps just your younger self?
  • How have you or your family dealt with challenges at schools, medical providers, or elsewhere?
  • Were there times when you expected resistance and instead were welcomed?
  • Do you have opinions you’d like to share about current events, or perhaps movies, TV shows, music, or more?
  • Do you have a story about how Our Family Coalition has had an impact on your or your family that you’d like to share?
