LGBT Family Field Trip to the Botanical Gardens - Free! Friday 02/23/2024

Join a group of LGBTQ families and escape to a unique urban oasis of extraordinary beauty at San Francisco Botanical Garden showcasing 8,000 different kinds of plants from around the world. 

We will be meeting at the Friend (North) Gate located on Martin Luther King Jr. at 10:00 AM. Our staff will be wearing an Our Family Coalition shirts. We will all walk through the botanical gardens and head to the Children's Garden together. We look forward to seeing you there! Registration with Our Family is required for free entry into the park.

Our Family Coalition welcomes you and your children ages 0-5 to our weekly playgroups!

What we offer:

We welcome parents and caregivers of children 0-5 years to our parent-child playdate every other Friday in 2024. Join other LGBTQ-identified parents in this bi-weekly group to build community with other LGBTQ caregivers and families, share resources, and interact with their children to support their psycho-social developments, parent-child bonds, and protective factors that help strengthen our families. Every fourth Friday of the month, we host a field trip filled with enriching activities at local venues. We host a playgroup in both SF and Oakland, come join us at whichever location works for you and your family.

  • Content submitted by the third Tuesday of the month will appear in in the following month’s newsletter.

We love lifting up the good work that members of our community and other social change organizations are doing in the Bay Area and beyond! Let us know if you wish to share a community event or opportunity with our families.

We’re looking for stories by or about LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers or prospective parents, as well as the grandparents or adult children of LGBTQ+ headed families.

Generally, we hope your story will not only inform other families on LGBTQ+ family topics, but also let others know that they are not alone in the journey of advocating for our families.

Whether you feel like you’ve arrived, or your story is not yet complete, know that we can keep one another company all along the way. And it always helps to feel a little less alone.

  • How is your family structured?
  • What is your family formation story?
  • Have you faced challenges in forming your family or parenting because of your identity?
  • How were you able to navigate these challenges?
  • What has been the impact on you/your spouse/children?
  • What systems/people helped guide you?
  • What advice would you have for other LGBTQ-headed families – or perhaps just your younger self?
  • How have you or your family dealt with challenges at schools, medical providers, or elsewhere?
  • Were there times when you expected resistance and instead were welcomed?
  • Do you have opinions you’d like to share about current events, or perhaps movies, TV shows, music, or more?
  • Do you have a story about how Our Family Coalition has had an impact on your or your family that you’d like to share?
