How to Discuss Gender with Your Kids: Workshop
Description
Talking to Your Kids About Gender Workshop
What:
Our Family Coalition will deliver a 3 intensive workshops that build on each other to go over the many considerations in understanding and working with your children around gender and their gender identity.
Gender in the United States has been used as a tool for division since the inception of the country. In this workshop we will explore the intersectional history of gender and the ways that historical understandings have led us to the modern conversations about gender roles, bathroom access, sports, etc… The impacts of this history will be discussed with statistics and a lens of gender expansive disenfranchisement to highlight the need to rework our common understandings of gender. We will also learn ways to decolonize our thinking and provide methods of incorporating gender inclusive practice in our spaces.
Learning Objectives:
Session 1: Participants will learn some of the history of gender and its understandings in the United States.
Session 2: Participants will learn to apply a gender and race critical lens to modern understandings of gender.
