Together We Thrive: Native Plant Nursery Community Volunteer Day
Description
What:
OFC is excited to partner with Save the Bay for a day of planting and fun! Save the Bay's volunteer program is an affinity space for folks that identify as LGBTQ+ and is led by staff that identify as Queer. Save the Bay's Native Plant Nursery at the Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline grows 20,000 plants per year that will eventually be planted out to one of our several restoration sites along the shoreline of the Bay.
In volunteering with their Native Plant Nursery you’ll have the opportunity to connect with the diversity of plants and people that make the Bay Area so special. They encourage folks with no prior experience in habitat restoration to volunteer with us and welcome any feedback to improve accessibility to their programs. Nursery volunteer tasks can include anything from seed cleaning to transplanting.
We ask volunteers to bring water bottles, snacks, wear long pants and closed toe shoes that they feel comfortable getting dirty. There is no indoor space at the MLK Nursery so dress for the weather. All tools and guidance will be provided by Save the Bay staff. We look forward to learning and growing together in community with you!
Accessibility: Save the Bay's Oakland Nursery is located about 100 feet from paved parking, within a fenced in area with gravel floor. There is a public restroom restroom next to the nursery alongside a paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. Nursery tasks can be moved to picnic benches directly next to the nursery where the ground is grassy and flat.
