Raising Inclusive & Race-Conscious Kids: A Tools & Strategies Workshop for Caregivers
When do children begin to notice race? How do racial biases develop? And how can parents and caregivers foster healthy, thoughtful conversations about race and identity from
an early age? Join OFC in partnership with EmbraceRace for an engaging and interactive workshop designed to help caregivers better understand children’s racial learning and development. Together, we’ll explore practical tools, communication strategies, and everyday actions that can help children build empathy, confidence, and a positive understanding of racial identity and difference.
This workshop will introduce caregivers to research-backed insights on how children learn about race from infancy through the middle school years, while offering accessible guidance for navigating conversations at home, in school, and in community spaces.
EmbraceRace is a national nonprofit that supports parents, caregivers, and educators in raising children who are thoughtful, informed, and courageous about race.
Meet the Facilitators:
The workshop will be led by Andrea Huang and Christina Rucinski.
Andrea is the Community Building and Learning Manager at EmbraceRace, where she oversees and facilitates classes, cohorts, and workshops.
Christina is the Senior Research-to-Practice Program Manager, where she translates the newest insights from scientific research on children's racial learning to inform caregiver and educator practices.
