LGBTQ+ School Readiness: Bullying Response & Prevention
Presented by KidPower

With the start of a new school year, as LGBTQ+ parents and caregivers, many of us are thinking about how to prepare our children for the challenges they may face at school, including bullying, exclusion, and harassment.
Join Our Family Coalition and KidPower International for an interactive virtual workshop designed specifically for LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers.
In this adults only workshop, together, we'll explore practical strategies to help youth of all ages (0-18) build confidence, set healthy boundaries, respond to bullying, and identify trusted adults who can support them.
Parents and caregivers will also gain tools to advocate for their kid(s) and help create safer, more affirming school environments especially as it relates to experiencing identity-based bullying/discrimination (e.g., anti-gay/trans harrassment & rhetoric).
Participants will leave with practical strategies to:
-
Teach children age-appropriate skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying.
-
Help children set respectful boundaries and communicate with confidence.
-
Recognize social and relational aggression and know when to intervene.
-
Support children in seeking help from trusted adults and persisting until they receive support.
-
Advocate effectively with teachers, school staff, and other caregivers to promote safety, inclusion, and belonging.
Whether your child is starting school for the first time or returning to the classroom, this workshop will provide practical tools to help LGBTQ+ families navigate the school year with greater confidence and support.
