Yerba Buena Picnic and a Movie

03/22/2014 11:30 AM - 03:40 PM PT

Description

Movie poster reads "Muppets Most Wanted." Actors Ricky Gervais (looking excited), Ty Burrell (looking evil and mischievous), and Tina Fey (looking excited) stand with a diverse group of muppets in front of a giant globe.

You bring your picnic lunch and your kids, we bring a sweet discount on the movie tickets, and we all have a blast eating, playing in the grass, and then watching the Muppets' latest feature film on opening weekend! We'll meet up at Yerba Buena Gardens Esplanade (a.k.a. the grassy glade) at 11:30, lay out our picnic lunches and then watch the kids run around in circles on the grass.  At 1pm, we'll walk down the street a block to the Century San Francisco Centre 9 (inside the San Francisco Centre shopping mall) to watch Muppets Most Wanted.

If you want to come for just the picnic part, you're most welcome!

•  $7 per person for the movie tickets. No one turned away for lack of funds.

•  Registration closes Thursday, March 20th at noon if you're looking to have us get you the discount tickets. We have a limited number of tickets, so sign up soon!

•  Yerba Buena Gardens is located on Mission St between 3rd and 4th Streets; parking is in the 5th & Mission Garage, and it's served by the Montgomery St. BART plus numerous MUNI lines (e.g. the 14, 30, 45, 8X, 27).

•  Century San Francisco Centre 9 theater is located in the San Francisco Centre, 845 Market St, Suite #500 (between 4th & 5th, at the Powell St. BART stop).

•  Movie is rated PG. Running time 112 minutes. Common Sense Media will publish a kid friendliness review on March 21st, the day the movie comes out. Muppets Most Wanted is a sequel to 2011's "The Muppets."

Share your story

We’re looking for stories by or about LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers or prospective parents, as well as the grandparents or adult children of LGBTQ+ headed families.

Generally, we hope your story will not only inform other families on LGBTQ+ family topics, but also let others know that they are not alone in the journey of advocating for our families.

Whether you feel like you’ve arrived, or your story is not yet complete, know that we can keep one another company all along the way. And it always helps to feel a little less alone.

  • How is your family structured?
  • What is your family formation story?
  • Have you faced challenges in forming your family or parenting because of your identity?
  • How were you able to navigate these challenges?
  • What has been the impact on you/your spouse/children?
  • What systems/people helped guide you?
  • What advice would you have for other LGBTQ-headed families – or perhaps just your younger self?
  • How have you or your family dealt with challenges at schools, medical providers, or elsewhere?
  • Were there times when you expected resistance and instead were welcomed?
  • Do you have opinions you’d like to share about current events, or perhaps movies, TV shows, music, or more?
  • Do you have a story about how Our Family Coalition has had an impact on your or your family that you’d like to share?
