Racial Justice & Social Change Community Roundtable: LGBTQ Family Focus
Description
Planning Team’s Goals:
To create a productive roundtable where LGBTQ families and our allies will be invited to:
- Unpack the ways our families are differently situated within (and impacted by) racist social systems
- Gain a deeper understanding of how LGBTQ families can impact social change around black lives
- Model how to best create productive spaces for parent-leaders across identities
- Explore ways we may improve how we parent and work in our diverse communities (school, faith, governance, neighborhood, etc.)
- Share best practices to engage community partners and allies within/outside of LGBTQ-specific circles (coalition building)
- Develop new relationships that will contribute to social change and racial justice in our various parent/caregiver communities
Planning Meeting Agenda (Draft):
- Introductions and dinner
- Setting intentions for successful group process
- Brainstorming and setting frame for the Roundtable
- Setting leadership, timelines and logistics
Our Planning Team will be intentionally led by African-American/Black parents/caregivers and supported by allies. Together, we intend to create an open and dynamic forum where we can share stories, learn strategies, and participate in the on going global efforts to create a more just reality for people of color.
