PRIDE INSIDE OAKLAND: Fire Station Tour and Q&A | 1:30PM - 2:00 PM
Description
This workshop is meeting virtually during shelter-in-place, as part of our Coronavirus curtailment response.
Please register in advance to receive phone and video conference access information.
Join us for a virtual fire station & fire engine tour followed by a chance to talk to an Oakland firefighter and ask all about the work they do!
A message from the presenter:
"Hey Folx! My name is Brooke (They/Them). I have been a Firefighter with the Oakland Fire Department for 6 years.
I moved to the Bay Area in 2002 to attend college at UC Berkeley and was a member of the Cal Track and Field team, competing as a heptathlete. I loved my time at Cal and was able to compete at the 2004 and 2005 NCAA Championships, the 2004 Olympic Trials, and I was on 2 USA Track and Field teams.
Prior to working as a Firefighter I worked on an ambulance as an EMT responding to 911 calls in Alameda County, and I worked a season with Cal Fire as a wildland firefighter. All together I have been a First Responder for 13 years.
I identify as Queer and Non-binary. I live in Oakland with my partner, Lisa, and our 3 kiddos. Another exciting bit of info is we just got engaged!
I feel very fortunate to be an Oakland Firefighter for many reasons. One of the reasons is I’m happy to have the opportunity to be a visible member of the LGBTQ+ community, possibly for little kids like me who didn’t have that growing up. AND I get to do this in the city I love and live in, Oakland!
As a part of Oakland Pride, and with Our Family Coalition, I’ll be doing a video tour of my home fire station, Station 13, in Oakland’s Fruitvale District. In addition to this I’ll be doing a live video Q&A on September 13 from 1:30-2pm.
I look forward to sharing more about myself, and what it’s like being an Oakland Firefighter. Happy Pride y’all!"
