Navigate, Advocate, Elevate: A Practical Skills Series taught by KidPower || Part 2
Description
Part 2: Advocating on Behalf of Your LGBTQ+ Child
Presented by KidPower
Advocacy takes many forms, and for caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth, it often means stepping into schools, programs, and community spaces to make sure your child is supported and affirmed. This session is dedicated to equipping parents and caregivers with practical tools to champion their child’s rights while also sustaining themselves in the process.
In this workshop provided by KidPower (kidpower.org), learn how to effectively advocate for your LGBTQ+ child in schools, healthcare, and community settings. You’ll walk away with strategies that not only empower your child, but also strengthen your ability to navigate difficult systems and conversations on their behalf.
In this session, you’ll practice skills you can use to:
-
Engage with teachers, administrators, and providers to ensure your child’s needs are respected
-
Interrupt bias or exclusionary practices in school and community spaces
-
Support your child’s emotional well-being while protecting your own resilience as a caregiver
-
Persist in advocacy when facing systemic barriers or pushback
- Build a strong support network for yourself and your family
Special Guest: One of OFC’s incredible parent-advocate ambassadors will join us to share lived experiences, real examples, and lessons learned from advocating on behalf of their LGBTQ+ child.
